All the way
Mar 6, 2007 in All things me
After reading Moonlight’s post about the list of things she wanna do in life, my mind suddenly recalls the diary that I have kept since 1996! I still have it with me now and I kept a list of things in it as years go by that I wanna do in life also
. The diary has seen me through a part of secondary school, my years in Shah Alam and also the first few years after setting foot in Germany. I rarely write anything in there now as there’s this blog to witness my journey through life right
.
Once in awhile I will dig out my diary and look through the list that I’ve made and tick out those that I have achieved so far. No doubt it gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction in life. Let’s see what have I achieved as of now…
1. Learn modern dancing.
This is made possible since I started Uni here and there’s this free sport program from the Uni and not only I have learned, relearned and in the end forgotten the moves already.
Experienced Jazz and Tap-dance also and it was really fun and a great work out also! My next intention is to learn Salsa!
2. Learn swimming
Well I know how to swim now as I learned it together with Mee Ling, Autumn Kitty and Loo Loo last time in secondary school. No doubt had a fun time flirting with the swimming instructor
.
3. Learn scuba-diving
There are courses at the Uni also for scuba diving but till now still do not have a chance to take up this course. Waiting for the right chance. However after watching the short film Open Water, I doubt that I’ll ever go deep sea swimming again, let alone scuba dive!
4. Learn to bake cakes and cookies
While I was back in Malaysia, I rarely have the chance to cook, not even instant noodles! I finally got a taste of my own creations of cakes and cookies after coming over here. I still remember my very first chocolate cheese cake, oh my it was so embarrassing just to think of it again. Well you know, I was planning to bake it for that special someone. While shopping for ingredients, I was looking for the right cheese and as I recall my recipe was in english and at that time I was still new to the cheese names in german!! The HUGE variety of cheese that you can find at the supermarkets here is not helping either.
So I just grabbed a cheese from the shelf and paid without knowing exactly which kind of cheese that I really needed! While beating the cheese with my mixer, something was telling me it doesn’t look right. The cheese didn’t seem to melt like it ought to and instead of having a smooth cheesy looking mixture, all I had was crumbs of cheese mixed together with other ingredients. Still thinking that it might turned out different after baking, I shoved it into the oven and waited. My confidence crumbled as I smelled something was REALLY wrong after some time and my cheese cake turned out to be inedible
. Horrors of horrors, I finally realized that I’ve bought Camembert cheese instead of the normal Philadelphia cheese. Can you imagine using a mixer to beat Camembert cheese??? Malu-nye!! A lesson for me to really LOOK and READ before buying anything!
But then as years gone by, I develop a love of cooking and baking. One bad experience is not gonna deter me from trying again
. Cooking can be a very relaxing, satisfying and therapeutic experience. Back in the uni-days, I still recalled my cooking sessions with other msians and my girlfriends. My roommate and I would indulge ourselves in cooking sessions everytime after an exam paper just to relax ourselves and to release tensions
! Those were the days…
Well, my next venture is to make curry puffs, you’ll see
.
5. Live in Britain for some time
I wondered why I have jotted this wish down. Somehow things turned out in a way now that I could not have asked for more. Instead of living for some time in Britain, I’ve spent quite some time in Germany and in Europe. So I’ll consider this wish is granted
.
Thorsten asked me before what was my first thought of Germany when I first discovered that I’m coming over here. To tell you the truth, I really had no idea what was I going to expect in this foreign land. Being educated in a former British colonial country and growing up in an environment where watching US-made movies was considered bread-and-butter of almost everyone’s life there, my first option of getting my tertiary education was naturally in english-speaking countries. It had never occurred to me that I will land in GERMANY!
6. Learn French
Still looking forward to learn this beautiful language. However my priority now is to improve my mandarin and maybe learn Japanese
. I had improved my mandarin knowledge a lot since getting to know some chinese who really come from mainland China!
7. Tour the World
Has made quite some progress in seeing Europe. Well I’m not even half way through yet in covering the continents. This will definitely take some time.
8. Learn to play piano and play the songs that I like by ear
Hmm, I guess this will be hard to achieve since it takes time to practise and I definitely need a piano for that. I had a chance to learn piano while I was small and back then I so hated my piano lessons that I threatened my mom because I was so fed up with practising. I had regretted that ever since
.
9. Mountainbiking across Europe
I learned to love cycling after coming here. I just love cycling here because everywhere you go it is so cyclist-friendly. I would really love to have a holiday where I can cycle and take in the beautiful landscape of a country at a slower pace. Planning, planning…
The list will no doubt keep on growing, till then I will continue renew my list and see how far I have reached.

I guess everyone do have a wish list sometime, someway, somehow.
