The power of light

Light is one of the most (if not the most) important aspect in photography. I’m no expert in photography but I can tell when a picture is taken with the built-in flash of the camera which results in washed out pictures. Especially when taking indoor pictures, flash is indispensable to produce good quality pictures. However built-in flash in the camera is not always the best option. Which is why I got myself an external flash Nikon SB-400 to complement my baby
.
Here’s a test picture. This one is taken in makro mode using the built-in flash. The light is reflected directly from the object which results in harsh texture, black background, washed-out faces and red-eyes phenomenon.

Here’s another shot taken with the Nikon SB-400 with bounce flash with the reflector tilted at 90 degrees up. This means the flash is bounced off the ceiling creating a softer texture of the object.

Doesn’t the 2nd picture look nicer and more appealing? Furthermore you can still see the details of the wall in the background. Don’t agree? Here’s another close up with bounce flash.

The reflector of the Nikon SB-400 can be tilted vertically in 0 (horizontal), 60 ,75 and 90 degrees up separately.
Conclusion: It’s really worth it to invest in an external flash to produce good indoor pictures.

Wow … so nice leh … yeah, flash is very important, according to my bunch of photographer frens.
