From Marseille, with love
Sep 20, 2007 in Going places
I think I haven’t emphasized enough that I really had a fantastic trip
. I have never felt so relax and carefree during any trip before. Maybe it’s because we didn’t have any concrete plans and also because we had more time on our hands to explore without having the pressure to see as many things as possible in the shortest possible time. That’s what I was longing for this time round.
First of all, we thought that the fastest way to reach Marseille is by flying there. Taking train would have mean 10 hrs of gruel sitting in the train till your butt wears off. Not to mention the almost 3hrs of long waiting time for the next train in Paris to Marseille. Forget it.
So we decided to fly there because it would mean only 2hrs of flight time and 45mins of transit time in Paris Airport. Ha. Fat chance. Our plane took off 15mins too late in Frankfurt which left us only 15mins of transit time in Paris. The results, we missed our connecting flight and we gotta wait 2hrs for the next flight to Marseille. Duh..with the waiting at the airport, it all added up to almost 10hrs of traveling too! However these few glitches didn’t dampen our spirits and Thorsten was in a good mood too. That’s all that matters, right?

Anyway, I digress. We had a superb late summer Mediterranean weather and I almost got sunburned on my face and so sun tanned. The yachts and sailing boats are docked at the Vieux Port so close to each other as if squeezing the last possible inch of space available. It was really amazing seeing so many yachtsmen working on their sailing boat preparing to go out to the sea. No doubt taking advantage of the good weather.
The Provence is so blessed with sunshine and good weather. No wonder the locals there have darker skin than the average French people that you find up north. We strolled up and down the Vieux Port so many times that I’ve lost count
. The area is so filled tourists and local alike. It is also the starting point of many sightseeing boats.

I made sure that we didn’t miss out the sunset view of the port. Surely I wasn’t disappointed. It was absolutely breathtaking.

Here is a set of sunset pictures at Vieux Port. The night view is just as serene and gorgeous. Enjoy the pictures. More to come
