10 year old

Birthday cake

Thorsten’s nephew just had his 10 year old birthday bash yesterday. I think I forgot how did I celebrate my 10 year old birthday. Or did I ever have a 10 year old birthday celebration? I really couldn’t remember.

It wasn’t a big celebration but he was head over heels for receiving so many birthday presents. I think he’s growing up because instead of getting presents like Lego and toy cars (which I can imagine a 10 year old in my time would get), he’s getting presents like Simpsons DVDs, a Swiss Army pocket knife lookalike (holy cow, he’s just a 10 year old! What do you expect a 10yo to do with a pocket knife?), a camping tent with camping equipments and some pullovers (which are not just any pullovers but those with basketball or baseball fan kind of pullovers) and a high-tech bicycle helmet!

Am I getting out-dated or I haven’t out grown my own era? Children nowadays are so much smarter and much more demanding. Lego and toy cars are for ‘small children‘. I think I’d better stop thinking like 10 year olds my time.

However I’d still prefer the idea that children should still be children and enjoy their childhood because its one of those precious time in their lives where it’s carefree and it’s a world of no-worries.
