Aging with grace

Grandma I consider myself a lucky girl to be able to enjoy the company of both paternal and maternal grandmas while growing up. True to the saying that grandmothers usually dote on their grandchildren, I’m ‘one’ of the many apples in the eyes of both my grandmas ;) . However I spent my childhood more with my paternal grandma and I’ve grown to love her cooking. I grew up eating her yummy Teochew-porridge, ‘Tau Yu Bak’, chicken curry and many more dishes which I don’t know the Teochew name.

She celebrated her 83rd birthday yesterday and thank goodness she’s still healthy and in good spirits. There was a celebration over the weekend back home to toast the occasion. I usually love this kind of get-together with my uncles, aunts and cousins. Since my grandma has many children, the house would be full of chatter and always loud during these gatherings.

My mom told me that my grandma will often complain about knee pain when she’s by herself and when she has company, the knee pain would miraculously disappear :) . I can imagine how that’s possible when she has the distraction of someone chatting with her ;) .

My grandma is one lucky lady, surrounded by her caring children and grandchildren. I want to be like her in my old age because I can imagine nothing would make me happier than to have the whole family together.
