Simple trick for great color

by Yen posted March 10, 2008 category Blogging

Have you ever wondered why the colors of your pictures are a little dull? Here’s where Photoshop comes to the rescue. Move your mouse over the pictures below for the touched up picture in Photoshop.
ThorstenThe picture above looks a little pale and lacks of warmth. A little touch up using the Hard Light blend mode suffuses the picture with warmth and increases its contrasts.
Church decoSo does this picture above. The brick wall looks a little faded in color and I use Soft Light blend mode to spice up the picture a little.
A lovely day in FreiburgI love this picture above, the way the plants grow all over the buildings to the quaintness of the whole setting. I use Soft Light blend mode here.
Layer StyleThe touch up is simple. Open a picture you want to edit in Photoshop and make a duplicate of the background (Layer> Duplicate or Ctrl+J). Then double click on the duplicated layer to open the blending option above. You can choose the blend mode for this layer (Soft Light, Hard Light, Overlay etc.). Experiment with the different blend modes to achieve the effect you want.

Hope this simple trick helps you in your picture editing endeavour ;) .
