Interlaken, Switzerland
Mar 23, 2008 in Going places
Interlaken is a picturesque, small town with population slightly half the size of Teluk Intan of Perak, located in the heart of Switzerland. The name itself literally means ‘between lakes’ because the town is situated between Lake Brienz to the east and Lake Thun to the west.
Despite its small size in population, it is a well-known tourist destination because it is a gateway to the magnificent Jungfraujoch (‘J’ is pronounced as alphabet ‘Y’) mountain.
Although winter is considered as off season, I have never seen such concentrated amount of Asian tourists at one place, seriously. Every corner I turned, there was always a group of Chinese, Korean, Japanese or Indian tourists walking in my direction. Thorsten
jokingly told me that he quite felt like in Malaysia
.
We stayed at this Hotel Post Hardermannli which is about 5min walking distance from the Interlaken West Train Station. It is a comfortable two star hotel in wood furnishing complete with a fireplace! How homey.
After arriving Interlaken in the afternoon, we decided to explore the town a little and there are so many souvenir shops! A visit to the Swiss Chocolatier is also a must. I was drooling at the window shop at these..
and these..
They are not cheap. 100g of these cost 8.50Fr == 5,70Euro == 25MYR! It’s like eating money itself. But once in awhile, you still have to indulge yourself in the sweet things in life right
?
Another famous souvenir from Switzerland is this kind of bells which they hang on cows.
Well, I have a picture of me with the bells, so it’s enough as a souvenir
.
I’ve tried to capture a panoramic view of the park at Interlaken with the looming mountains at the backdrop. Don’t you wish to wake up everyday to have this kind of view greeting you when you look out of your window? Or to have an evening stroll at a park that offers such magnificent scenery? I’m dreaming…

This place looks breathtakingly beautiful..I am glad you went and had fun! Those fancy and expensive chocolates don’t hurt either..:)
The chocolates displayed in the shop looks like “yuk kon” to me…hehe…
Ee Chin: Hehehe..those chocolates are really good!
Jaina: It didn’t occur to me that those chocolates look like ‘yuk kon’ but now that you’ve brought that up…there is some resemblance
