Eating Greek

My dear friends asked me out for lunch to sort of celebrate my belated birthday last Saturday. I think we chatted for about two hours over the internet deciding on what kind of restaurant we’ll be going to this time.

No Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese food since I yearned for some variety.

No Japanese food because the choice of Japanese restaurants in Mannheim is too limited.

No German food this time round as I can’t think of eating anything typical German besides pork knuckles, which I don’t really like. After all, I find German food a tad too salty for my liking.

No Mexican food as I’ve just had Fajitas a few weeks earlier.

No Indian food because I’ve just cooked chicken curry a weekend earlier and I couldn’t think of ordering anything in an Indian restaurant besides curry.

No English food because there’s no English restaurants in Mannheim. Besides that, what’s typical English anyway? Baked beans? Fish and chips? I can cook em at home :P .

French food ? There’s no French restaurant in Mannheim I’m afraid. By the way I don’t know what is typical French food either.

So what’s left on the list? I wanted so much Malaysian food but there’s no Malaysian restaurants here in Mannheim!! So any Malaysians planning to open a restaurant in Mannheim? I’ll be your first customer :P .

I decided on Greek, although I must say it’s no way near Malaysian food but their seafood has an iota of resemblance to Malaysian seafood :P . I’ve never been to this Greek restaurant before although I passed by it everyday for the past few years on the way to my Uni. We decided to give it a try because we’ve taken its existence for granted long enough.

Upon entering the restaurant, there wasn’t a soul except the waiters in the restaurant and my gut feeling was telling me that something’s not right. A good restaurant must be filled with patrons during lunch hour on a Saturday afternoon right?

But we braved ourselves and our stomach were left to the mercy of the Greek Gods. The food however turned out to be surprisingly good! There’s this Trilogy from the Ocean. It’s a platter of fish, squids (those that look like some flower petals) and giant prawns.
Trilogy from the ocean Although they reminded me of some Japanese tempura, they tasted nevertheless lecker (German for yummy). I had this plate of dover sole fillet which in my opinion would taste better if they don’t turn the fish into a fillet :( .
Dover sole fillet Another choice on the menu is this Devil’s skewer.Devil's skewer It is some roasted pork meat dipped in spicy sauce. All in all, I’d definitely give this restaurant another go!

By the way, anyone has any slimming tips? Summer is knocking on my doors and I gotta get those fat burning! Bah.

  3. Hello there!

Ive found my way into your maze through ‘ Fresh from the oven ‘. Amazing blog you have here and I’ve enjoyed reading. =) I thought I better not go away quiet this time, and would like to wish you a happy belated birthday! Everybody ages, but aging with grace is what makes a person getting more beautiful ;)

Germany is one of my favourite countries! I’m learning German on my own though I’m not very disciplined to do so. =P It’s really great that I can catch a phrase or two from your maze. =D

    Enjoy life! God bless.

  4. Hello Stardust,

Thank you very much for the birthday wishes! :)

I admire you for even wanting to learn German because it is quite a tough language (in my opinion)! Glad that I can be a little of help :) .

    Cheers!
