Perak Cave Temple (霹雳洞)
Jun 20, 2008 in Going places
My hometown Ipoh is a relative small, peaceful, laid back and quiet town. Ironically the town will come alive during Chinese New Year because Chinese from cities like KL or Penang will return home for the festival.
One thing that makes Ipoh stands out from the rest of the cities in Malaysia is that this town is surrounded by many lime stone hills and caves. Rumor has it that due to the surrounding hills which block out the harsh tropical sun rays, girls who come from Ipoh are especially fair and pretty. Ahem.
There are a few well known lime stone caves in Ipoh that we missed visiting last time. One of them is the Perak Cave Temple.
To the local Buddhist community, this cave serves as a religious place and will be thronged by people every time come any religious festivals. My last visit to this place was during Chinese New Year with my family while I was 8yrs old. Well, not that I remember coming here but I still have some pictures taken at this place back then.
From those pictures, it seems like this place has not changed at all throughout the years. The interior of the cave is untouched, except the ground might be smoothened a little for the comfort of visitors to walk around. But the arches and niches were left as they are.
Upon entering the cave a huge golden statue of the Buddha greeted us. The interior walls were painted with Chinese paintings some of which depicts the goddesses from some myths in the Chinese history.
I like this painting of birds very much. It is so ..hmm..Chinese?
A warning to visitors though, if you are prone to being bitten by mosquitoes then it is advisable to wear long pants or cover your exposed body parts with some anti-mosquito-cream because my body was like a feast to those creatures.
A picture with my mom and dad in front of the Kuan Yin statue. It was burning hot standing under the sun in the afternoon. I think after the trip my head started to throb ferociously because my brain was overheated
!
More pictures to come soon!

Sorry I missed this entry of ur blog. It’s a nice entry .. can share with my friends that commented Ipoh has nothing to visit ..
