Greetings from Penang
My visit to Penang this time round wasn’t as eventful as the last time I was there. Although our choice was to stay by the beach because what’s better than to have sun, sand and the calming sound of waves lulling me. Well, that is only true when you have fair weather, which we don’t have this time.
Our ‘pleasant stay’ was marred by crappy weather and thunderstorms which looks very much like a threatening tsunami on our first half of the day. The beach looked very much deserted and people were
busy gathering up their belongings due to the approaching storm.
My friend told me that this side of Penang was hit quite badly too during the tsunami disaster in 2006 where some houses around this area were destroyed.
My mind was racing as I watched the storm approaching, hoping that it is just ‘another’ tropical thunderstorm which occasionally comes and goes. As the rain finally arrived on the shore, it pelted mercilessly and the wind almost blew me away while we scrambled for shelter at our hotel. So far for our first day at the beach.
The second day wasn’t any better as I woke up to overcast skies. One can tell by the way it rains whether the rain will last the whole day or only temporary.
I guess lady luck was teasing us by granting us a day filled with rain the whole morning. The lovely pool area was closed and we sat by the pool gazing hopelessly out at the sea hoping for the rain to stop soon.
When it finally did stop, the beach became alive again. We saw people jetskiing and parasailing in spite of the weather. It looked so much fun.
I was a happy girl again.
That looks like a lot of fun despite the unfriendly weather! I thought it was a good chance to catch a shot on a brewing storm. Glad to see that you’re back to your happy self. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks Stardust!
