To the Highlands

I have a feeling like I’m being a tourist in my own country each time I return home and it always injects a sense of pride in me seeing the beauty that my homeland offers. This time round, it is a visit to Cameron Highlands!
Me with my lovely friendI was pretty excited about the whole trip because this will be my first time there. However I couldn’t help but felt a little anxious as I’ve read enough in the newspaper about landslides and land erosions which occasionally led to some accidents along the road.
Me and TThank God the weather was fine and it wasn’t as ‘cold’ as it was said to be. This is cold. My dear friend F and her husband drove us up and brought us around. Less did I know that this place is a bustling town for locals and foreigners alike. It is sort of like a little getaway from the scorching heat.
Boh tea shopDue to its location at about 1500m above sea level, the climate is suitable for growing vegetables and fruits which is normally impossible to grow on low lands, like coral salads and strawberries. It was also my first visit to a tea plantation. The one that we went to was ‘Boh’ Tea Plantation at Sungei Palas, which I absolutely recommend.
The grinding machineThere is a little tea museum where they exhibit the machines used to grind tea leaves and also the ‘live’ process producing tea can be viewed. Tea leavesAs I approached the tea museum, I could catch the inviting whiffs of freshly dried tea leaves, ready to be packed and sold. As a tea drinker, it never crossed my mind how tea was processed until then.
At the Boh tea centerThere is a lovely balcony at the ‘Boh’ Tea Centre where visitors can sit and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed ‘Boh’ tea while drinking in the beauty of the surroundings. The greensThe air is fresh and everywhere around us is so green. I can sit there the whole day. I felt peaceful and happy, chatting and laughing with the people I love. Life is great.

  1. Beautiful Cameron Highlands! The second picture is wonderfully taken. Even the pictures ‘ smell tea-fresh ‘! I can understand your deep pride for Malaysia indeed. =)

  2. Thank you Stardust :)

  3. Hi Mistymaze,

I know what you mean being a tourist in our own country. My last visit to Ipoh before last year’s trip was 2000. I was so amazed of all the changes to the little city, traffic was so crazy on Brewster and Hugh Low Streets. The new road to Cameron’s was new to me too. And the last I was in KL was 1994, needless to say I was definitely acting like a tourist, looking left and right, up and down!
