Bargain hunting at flea market
I haven’t been to a flea market before in Malaysia. I don’t even know whether there’s any flea market at all back home in my small hometown. Since coming to Germany, I’ve been to some flea markets a few times around the region where I’m staying and I must say, I love bargain hunting at flea market!
The first time visiting a flea market, I came back with a fully functional toaster for 1.50Euro and a four-tiered cabinet for 4Euro. I was overjoyed with my purchases, although I didn’t have anything in mind to buy at all in the first place
.
During our short day trip to Heidelberg last weekend, I was thrilled to find out that there was a flea market all over the town. Everywhere we turned, every corner was occupied with some stands selling ‘goods’.
One thing I like about flea markets is that I’m always in for some surprises because I’ll never know what I’ll find there. There were loads of things for sale, from old sweaters to outrageous costumes fit for costume parties, old record albums to crappy trinkets, porcelain plates to shoes and jeweleries, old paintings to children toys and many more junks that you can or can’t imagine.
I was so tempted to bargain for that cute, intricately crafted candle holder or that delicately painted ceramic jug, or that miniature glass house or that unique oil painting which I thought could hang perfectly in the living room.
BUT I must say if you’re going for bargain hunting at a flea market, you’d better find a good companion, who shares the same eagerness as you because my boyfriend was killing all my buzz the whole time saying I don’t need all those junks. And he had toasts from my ‘junk’-toaster before. Grrrrr.
The only flea market I can remember is the one by the general market. On the lower level next to the Muslims meat stalls, there are folks who set up their second hand sale right there. The items are not in the best condition, a lot of antiques and the clothes/jackets smelled terrible.
I’m not sure whether you know there is flea market in Ipoh town… It opens on every Sunday morning…
It’s fun to see all the antiques sold there but it’s too hot and humid to walk under hot morning sun…I’ll get sweaty after walking there..
Dawn, I’m not sure which town you are referring to where the general market is. Is it in Ipoh?
Jaina, now that you’ve mentioned, I remember! But I’ve never been there before. I think the flea market there is quite new right? I mean before I came to Germany, there wasn’t any flea market there before (if I’m not mistaken
).
Yes, in Ipoh. The general market where Super Kinta used to be.
Dawn, I don’t recall seeing any flea market there
. Good to know that there are actually quite a few flea markets in Ipoh
