Sitting on white powder

by Yen posted January 12, 2009 category Life in Germany

A couple of weeks ago, this lake was still a lake. With the temperature around -15°C that lasted for almost more than a week now, the surface has turned as hard as an ice-skating ring! Winter 08/09We had heaps of fun walking from one end of the lake to the opposite end, counting snow angels under the winter sun, carefully avoiding yellow snow, marveling at our footsteps that blemished the otherwise perfect surface on the further end of the lake until I couldn’t feel or wriggle my toes anymore and my lips have turned numb.

I knew it was time to turn back.

  1. Great picture. I have been walking on a lot of lakes too on my walks with the dogs. Winter can be a very beautiful season but when it comes to driving in snow, I totally dislike it!

  2. How do you know that you won’t step into a floating ice or break the ice and fall into the lake?

  3. Dawn, I absolutely agree with you, driving in winter sucks when it snows.

Bee Ean, we checked out the ice before, it was at least 15cm thick!
